2017 Achilles Radial Motorsports Season Review

IRVINE, CALIF., October 30, 2017- Team Achilles Radial drivers competed in events from the United States to Europe and Japan in 2017, with numerous podiums and a championship among the results this season.


Achilles Radial was represented by drivers in both the PRO and PRO2 class in Formula DRIFT USA this season.  Kristaps Bluss of HGK Racing was the top finishing driver in the PRO class with a fifth-place finish.  2013 Champion, Michael Essa, finished in seventh place with Dean Kearney in 11th.  2017 would be the final year for Formula DRIFT veteran, Robbie Nishida, who retired at the end of the season.  Robbie was a key player in Team Achilles for the last six seasons.  Achilles finished third place in the Tire Manufacturer Championship, and had six driver podiums during the season.

Team Achilles had two podium sweeps in PRO2, with Travis Reeder finishing the year in second place and a Rookie of the Year title to his name.  Achilles drivers Reeder, Matt VanKirk, Randall Waters, Dirk Stratton and Szilveszter Gyorgy all received their PRO license for 2018.

Formula DRIFT Japan

Team Achilles/ATR Radial driver Andrew Gray beat the odds in 2017 and delivered his third consecutive Formula DRIFT Japan Championship.  Andrew and the Powervehicles team stood in top of the podium at round two and fought hard to stay ahead of the competition through five rounds. 

Irish Drift Championship

Team Achilles driver Tomas Kiely finished in the second-place position in the IDC this year, with two podiums during the season.  The 17-year-old driver has been flying the Achilles Radial banner for the last two seasons, and is one of the rising stars in the drifting community.  Anthony Galvin started the season strong with a second-place finish at the opening round, and ultimately finished in seventh place this year.
